Our athletes bring home 49 medals from Canada Games

Team NS collect 3 gold, 21 silver, and 15 bronze, third-best in history

Nova Scotia's athletes tallied the third-best medal count in the province's history at the 2017 Canada Games in Winnipeg. Nova Scotia athletes collected 49 medals: 13 gold, 21 silver and 15 bronze and placed fifth in the overall standings. "I am very proud of all members of Team Nova Scotia," said Premier Stephen McNeil. "They worked hard, supported each other and were great ambassadors for the province. They will bring their positive experiences from Winnipeg home with them, and their communities and Nova Scotia will be stronger for it."

Athletes bring home 15 medals after first week at Canada Games

Medal haul is 2 gold, 7 silver and 6 bronze

Nova Scotia painted the first week of the 2017 Canada Games silver and bronze with some gold highlights. The province’s athletes picked up medals on the water, on the beach, in the hills, on the pitch and on the track. Gold medal winners were Cameron Shaw of Halifax and Justin Timmins of Bedford in men’s double-handed 29er sailing and Sarah Mitton of Brooklyn in shot put.

Nova Scotia wins 7 medals, including a gold in shot put

Sarah Mitton wins gold while Ben Brown takes two silver medals

Ben Brown, with two silvers, and Sarah Mitton, with a gold, led the medal rush as Nova Scotia captured seven medals at the 2017 Canada Games in Winnipeg on Aug. 3. Also medalling was Mackenzie Myatt (silver), Joy MacLachlan (bronze, Donald Peters (bronze) and women's soccer (bronze). Week 1 wraps up with one more day of competition.

Yarmouth’s Shay throws the discus to a silver-medal finish

Ryan Shay's silver-medal effort last night gave Team Nova Scotia its first medal at the 2017 Canada Games. It was a sweltering hot early evening competition at University of Manitoba Stadium. Yarmouth's Shay's silver is his first at the Canada Games with another chance on Friday, Aug. 4, in shot put.
